About the magnetic flux converter

Magnetic flux (Φ) is the total amount of magnetic field passing through a surface, with the SI unit of weber (Wb) — equivalent to a tesla-square-meter or a volt-second. The older CGS unit is the maxwell (Mx), where 1 Wb = 10⁸ Mx. Faraday’s law links flux directly to induced voltage: a 1-Wb/s rate of change induces 1 V per turn. Use this converter to switch between weber, maxwell, and volt-second representations.

Frequently asked questions

  • How does flux relate to induced EMF?

    Faraday’s law: EMF = −N × dΦ/dt. A flux changing by 1 Wb/s in a single-turn coil induces 1 V.

  • How big is 1 weber?

Quite large. A 1 T field passing through a 1 m² area produces 1 Wb. Real-world fluxes in transformers and motors are usually in milliwebers.
